Roblox Dictionary
78 Roblox words and abbreviations, explained in plain English. Written for two people at once: the player who just met a word in chat, and the parent who just read one over a shoulder and would like a straight answer.
If you are a parent, start here
Most Roblox slang is harmless — teasing about avatars, shorthand for game genres, abbreviations that predate Roblox entirely. A small number of terms are worth recognising because they point at something real. Those are marked Worth knowing throughout, and they are:
Beamed · Bypass · Condo · Cookie logger · Cross-trade · Dupe · E-dating · Executor · Free Robux · ODer · Private server · Projected · Scammer · Serverside · Trade · VC
The single most useful pattern to know is not a word at all: someone new who wants to move the conversation off Roblox, usually to Discord. Roblox filters chat and moderates it; Discord does neither on a private server. Almost every serious problem on this page — beaming, condos, ODing, serverside sales — happens after that move.
0–9
1337 · leet
Old internet spelling of “elite”, written in numbers. On Roblox it survives mostly as a joke about someone acting like an expert.
A
AFK
Away From Keyboard. The player has left their character standing there and is not reading chat.
Some games have AFK zones or “AFK farms” where you leave the game running to collect rewards over hours.
Alt · alt account
A second account, kept separate from someone’s main one. Used to start a game fresh, to test things, or to hide who you are.
Alts are not against the rules by themselves. They become a problem when someone uses one to dodge a ban or to pretend to be a different person.
Asset
Anything uploaded to Roblox that has an ID number: an image, a sound, a model, a hat, an animation. If it has an ID, it is an asset.
Avatar Shop · catalog
Roblox’s shop for things your character wears — hair, hats, faces, shirts, bundles. Older players still call it the catalog.
B
Bacon hair · bacon
A player using the default free avatar, whose brown spiky hair looks like a rasher of bacon. It means “new here”, and it is usually meant as a mild insult.
It is one of the most common bits of Roblox teasing, and it is worth knowing it is aimed at players who have not spent money rather than at anything they did.
BC / TBC / OBC
Builders Club, Turbo Builders Club and Outrageous Builders Club — Roblox’s old paid memberships. They were replaced by Premium in 2019, so anyone still using these terms is talking about the past.
Beamed · beamingWorth knowing
Having your account stolen and stripped of its Robux and limited items. “I got beamed” means someone took control of the account and emptied it.
It nearly always starts with a fake website, a fake trade site, or a link in a Discord server that asks you to log in. The login page steals the session and the items are traded away within minutes. Roblox does not restore beamed items.
Boombox
An item some games give you that plays music from an audio ID. You paste the ID in and everyone nearby hears it.
Bot
An account run by a program rather than a person. Bots inflate visit counts, spam adverts in chat, or farm items.
A “bot game” is a low-effort game copied hundreds of times to catch search traffic.
Brainrot
Deliberately nonsensical meme content. In 2025–26 it became a whole genre of Roblox games built on absurd characters and sounds.
Harmless as a word. The games are usually simple collect-and-upgrade loops.
Bundle
A complete avatar sold as one package — body, head, animations, sometimes clothing. Buying a bundle changes the shape of your character, not just what it wears.
Bypass · bypassedWorth knowing
Getting something past Roblox’s filters — usually a rude word spelled oddly, or an image or audio uploaded to look innocent.
Bypassed audio and decals are a real thing to be aware of: a game can look normal and still have inappropriate content someone slipped through moderation.
C
Catalog
The older name for the Avatar Shop, still used constantly. “Catalog item” means anything you can wear.
Classic
The old blocky Roblox look — R6 bodies, simple hats, 2006-to-2012 styling. “Classic outfit” and “classic face” are deliberate throwbacks.
CondoWorth knowing
An unofficial game made to look ordinary but built for sexual roleplay. Roblox deletes them constantly and the people who make them re-upload them constantly.
Condos are not findable through normal Roblox search — they are shared through Discord servers and short-lived links, and the people sharing them are frequently adults looking for children. If a child mentions condos, or is in a Discord server that advertises them, that is a serious conversation, not a slang question.
Cross-tradeWorth knowing
Swapping Roblox items for something outside Roblox — real money, or items in another game. It is against Roblox rules and is one of the most reliable ways to get scammed, because nothing about it can be enforced.
D
Decal
An image uploaded to Roblox with its own ID, which players paste onto surfaces or into games that support it.
Devex · Developer Exchange
The official programme that lets developers turn earned Robux into real money. It has a minimum threshold and requires being 13+ and verified.
Devex is the only legitimate way Robux becomes cash. Anyone offering to “cash out” your Robux outside it is running a scam.
Dominus
A family of extremely rare crown-like hats, some of the most expensive items Roblox ever made. Owning one is a status symbol more than anything.
DupeWorth knowing
A duplicated item or currency created by exploiting a bug. Duped items get deleted when Roblox finds them, so buying one means losing it later.
E
E-dating · e-dating, online datingWorth knowing
Playing out a romantic relationship inside Roblox. It breaks Roblox’s rules and is why “ODer” is an insult.
The concern is not usually two 11-year-olds pretending to date. It is that e-dating spaces attract adults, and that “are you single?” in a public game is a standard opening move for someone trying to move a child to Discord.
Emote
An animation your avatar plays on command — waving, dancing, laughing. Seven are built into every account and typed as chat commands.
ExecutorWorth knowing
A third-party program that injects cheat scripts into Roblox. Downloading one is the fastest route to both a ban and a virus.
Executors are the single most common thing a “free Robux” video is actually asking you to install.
Exploiter · hacker
A player using cheat software to fly, walk through walls, see through terrain or spawn items. Roblox players usually call them hackers; “exploiter” is more accurate.
A real Roblox account cannot be “hacked” by someone in a game with you. If an account is taken, it is because a password or session token was handed over somewhere else.
F
F3X · building tools
A popular free building toolkit that some games hand out so players can build in-game.
FE · Filtering Enabled
A security setting, now mandatory, that stops one player’s computer changing the game for everyone else. “FE game” is old talk for a game exploiters cannot wreck for others.
Fling
Launching another player’s character across the map, either through a glitch or an admin command.
Free RobuxWorth knowing
Does not exist. Every site, generator, video, ad and “Robux promo code” offering it is a scam.
Robux comes from four places only: buying it, Premium’s monthly allowance, earning it from your own game, and official gift cards. Nothing else. Roblox promo codes give items — free clothes and accessories — never Robux.
Front page
The Roblox home and discover pages. “Front-paged” means a game got featured there, which can take it from a hundred players to a hundred thousand overnight.
G
Gamepass
A one-off purchase inside a game that unlocks something permanently — double speed, a pet, VIP access. Bought with Robux, tied to that one game.
Different from a developer product, which you can buy over and over.
GFX
A rendered picture of someone’s avatar, made in Blender or similar, used as a profile picture or a game thumbnail. Good ones get commissioned and paid for in Robux.
Grinding
Repeating the same task for a long time to build up currency, levels or pets. Most Roblox simulator games are grinding with a theme on top.
Group
A Roblox organisation with ranks and a shared funds balance. Games, clans and clothing shops are all run through groups.
Guest
The account-less player Roblox used to allow, with a blue or grey avatar. Removed in 2017. “Guest 666” is a creepypasta, not a real thing.
H
Headless · Headless Horseman
A bundle that removes your avatar’s head entirely. It is expensive, only sells around Halloween, and is one of the clearest “this player spent money” signals on the platform.
Because it is a bundle rather than a hat, no free item and no code will ever give it to you. Anything claiming to is a scam.
I
ID
The number that identifies any uploaded thing on Roblox. Music IDs, decal IDs, item IDs and game IDs are all just this — a number you paste in.
K
Korblox
A bundle with a skeletal blue-flame leg. Sold permanently for a large amount of Robux, so like Headless it reads as a money flex.
L
Lag
Delay between what you do and what the game shows. In Roblox it usually means a slow connection to the server or a game doing too much work at once.
Limited
An item Roblox stopped selling, so the only way to get one is to buy it from another player. Limiteds have resale prices that move like a market.
Limited U · Limited Unique
A limited that was sold in a fixed number of copies, each with a serial. Owning a low serial number is worth extra to collectors.
M
Man Face
A classic Roblox face with a smug grin, worn ironically by huge numbers of players. Officially “Man”.
N
NBC · No Builders Club
Old insult for a player with no paid membership. Long obsolete, since Builders Club no longer exists — the modern version is “bacon hair”.
Noob
A new or unskilled player. On Roblox it also names a look: the yellow-and-blue default avatar from the platform’s early years.
Mostly used as light teasing rather than real hostility.
O
Obby
Short for obstacle course. A jumping-and-timing game, and one of the oldest Roblox genres.
ODer · online daterWorth knowing
Someone using Roblox to date rather than play. It is used as an insult, and “ODing” breaks Roblox’s rules.
For a parent: this is the word that matters most on this page. ODers congregate in social and roleplay games, and the pattern to watch for is a new friend who quickly wants to move the conversation off Roblox — usually to Discord, where Roblox’s chat filters and moderation do not reach.
Off-sale
An item the creator has stopped selling. It is not a limited — it simply cannot be bought right now, and may return.
OG
Original. An OG account is an old one; an OG username is a short, early, desirable name. Both are targets for theft, which is why OG accounts get beamed more than most.
Oof
The death sound Roblox used for over a decade. It was replaced in 2022 over a licensing dispute, and “oof” survives as a word for anything going badly.
OP · overpowered
Too strong. An OP weapon or pet unbalances a game.
Overpay
In trading, giving more value than you get, on purpose, to make a trade attractive. “I’ll overpay for that” is a normal opening offer, not a scam by itself.
P
Pay-to-win · p2w
A game where spending Robux gives a real advantage rather than just a look.
Private server · VIP serverWorth knowing
A copy of a game only you and people you invite can join, usually rented monthly with Robux.
Worth knowing as a parent: a private server is invisible from outside, so nothing said in one is seen by other players who might report it.
Projected · projected itemWorth knowing
A limited item created out of nothing by an exploit and then traded on as if real. When Roblox notices, it deletes the item — from whoever is holding it at the time, not from whoever made it.
Promo code
A code entered on Roblox’s own promo-code page for a free item. Roblox promo codes never give Robux, and they are only ever redeemed on roblox.com.
R
R6 / R15
The two avatar body types. R6 is the classic six-part blocky body; R15 has fifteen parts and moves more smoothly. Games choose which one they use.
RAP · Recent Average Price
The rolling average of what a limited item has actually sold for. It is Roblox’s own number and it is a measure of past sales, not of what anyone will pay you today.
Traders talk about RAP constantly and it is routinely misused: an item can have a high RAP and no buyers at all.
Rejoin
Leaving a game and joining again, usually to fix a glitch or to land in a different server.
Robux
Roblox’s currency. Bought with real money, earned by developers, or given monthly with Premium. Used for items, gamepasses and game purchases.
Roblox takes a cut of most transactions, which is why a 100-Robux sale does not pay the seller 100 Robux.
Roleplay · RP
Playing a character in a shared world — family, school, hospital, town. Brookhaven and Adopt Me are the biggest examples.
Roleplay games are where most of a young player’s open-ended social contact happens, which is why they are the ones most worth knowing about.
Rthro
Roblox’s realistic, human-proportioned avatar style, introduced in 2018. The opposite of the classic blocky look.
S
ScammerWorth knowing
Someone who takes items, Robux or account access by trickery. The standard tricks are fake trade sites, fake “middlemen”, fake giveaways, and trade windows swapped at the last second.
Rule that covers nearly all of it: nobody legitimate ever needs your password, and no real Roblox trade happens outside Roblox’s own trade window.
Script
Code that makes a Roblox game work, written in Luau. Also, confusingly, the word exploiters use for cheat code — so “script” is innocent in a developer context and not in a cheating one.
Serverside · SSWorth knowing
Cheat software that claims to run commands on the whole server rather than just your own screen. Sold in Discord servers, usually fake, and buying it means paying a scammer for a ban.
Slender
An avatar style built from a thin body, dark clothes and long hair. Wildly popular and, fairly or not, associated with ODers.
Star Code
A five-letter code from an official Roblox creator. Entering one when you buy Robux gives that creator a share of Roblox’s cut — it does not cost or give you anything.
Sweat · tryhard
Someone playing far more seriously than the game calls for.
T
Tax
Roblox’s 30% cut on marketplace sales. Sell an item for 100 Robux and 70 reaches you.
Terminated
Permanently banned. A terminated account cannot be recovered and everything on it is gone.
Tix · Tickets
Roblox’s free second currency, removed in 2016. Referenced constantly by older players as shorthand for “the good old days”.
TradeWorth knowing
Swapping limited items with another player through Roblox’s own trade window. Both sides need Premium.
Only trades done inside that window are real. Every “trade” arranged on a website or in Discord is either a scam or unenforceable.
Tycoon
A genre where you claim a base and buy droppers and upgrades that earn money automatically. One of the oldest Roblox formats.
U
UGC · User Generated Content
Items made by ordinary creators rather than by Roblox. Almost everything new in the Avatar Shop is UGC.
It is why the shop grew enormously — and why so many items are near-copies of each other.
V
Valk · Valkyrie
A winged helmet, one of the classic status limiteds. “Valk” on its own usually means the original Valkyrie Helm.
VC · voice chatWorth knowing
Roblox’s in-game voice chat. It requires age verification with ID and is off by default.
Worth checking directly rather than assuming: voice chat is an account setting, and it is one of the few places on Roblox with no text filter at all.
Vibe game
A game with no objective, made for hanging out and chatting. Cafés, bedrooms, islands.
Where to go next
Plenty of the terms above have a whole page behind them: limiteds and RAP, emotes and /e commands, real promo codes (the ones that give items, never Robux), star codes, free items, catalog and UGC item IDs, bundles — which is where Headless and Korblox live — music IDs, decal IDs, admin commands and the Robux tax calculator.
Everything we publish is checked against Roblox's own data rather than copied from other lists — how we verify explains the process. Spotted a term we have missed, or a definition that has drifted? Tell us.
