Roblox Username Generator

Pick a style, generate, copy. Check availability on the signup screen.

Generate, then check — in that order

No username generator on the internet knows what is available, and any that claims to is guessing. Roblox does not publish a list of taken names, and the only thing that can answer the question is Roblox itself. So the workflow that actually works is: generate a shortlist here, then run your favourites through our username checker, which asks Roblox's own endpoint and comes back with free, taken or rejected.

Generate ten and expect two or three to survive. Names built from two ordinary English words are the most likely to be gone; the ones with an underscore or a trailing number are the ones that usually get through, which is exactly why the generator mixes those forms in rather than handing you clean pairs only.

The rules your name has to pass

Length3 to 20 characters. Anything shorter than four letters was claimed a decade ago, so treat three- and four-character names as effectively impossible rather than merely rare.
CharactersLetters and numbers only. No spaces, no dots, no dashes, no emoji. If a name you have seen contains a symbol, you were looking at a display name, not a username.
UnderscoresOne, and it cannot be the first or last character. So Soft_Halo works, Soft__Halo does not, and _SoftHalo does not either.
UniquenessEvery username on Roblox is unique and case-insensitive. SoftHalo and softhalo are the same name, so changing capitalisation never frees up a taken one.
The filterNames are run through Roblox’s text filter. Anything that reads as a swear, a slur, a real full name, contact details or an impersonation of Roblox staff is rejected at signup, even when the letters look innocent apart.
Changing itA username change costs 1,000 Robux, every time. Display names are free and can be changed every seven days. This is the whole reason to think for two minutes before you commit.

Why the 1,000 Robux matters more than the name

A Roblox username is close to permanent. Changing it costs 1,000 Robux — real money, every single time — and the moment you move off your old name it goes back into the pool for anyone to claim, so a change is one-way in practice. That is the difference between this and picking a name on almost any other platform, and it is the reason to spend two minutes rather than twenty seconds here.

Two things reliably cause regret. The first is naming yourself after a game: BrookhavenQueen is a fine name right up until you stop playing Brookhaven, and you will. The second is a name that only works written down — heavy on numbers, letters swapped for digits, an underscore in an awkward place. You will type it at every login and read it out to friends, and the awkwardness compounds.

The good news is that the name people actually see is the free one. Your display name sits above your head in game and at the top of your profile, does not have to be unique, accepts spaces and symbols, and can be changed every seven days for nothing. Put your personality there and keep the username plain. Our display name ideas list is built for exactly that, and a matching profile bio finishes the set.

The three styles, and who each one is for

  1. Aesthetic. Two soft nouns stuck together — moon, cloud, petal, halo — sometimes with an underscore. This is the dominant style in the roleplay and outfit side of Roblox, and it survives being read aloud in a voice chat, which is more than you can say for a name full of numbers. Pairs naturally with a pastel or kawaii avatar.
  2. Cool. Short, hard consonants and one-syllable second halves: Voidstrike, NovaFang, ZeroDrift. Built for competitive games where your name sits on a leaderboard and has to be readable at eight pixels tall. Avoid the xXx wrapper unless you mean it as a joke — it now reads as a 2013 throwback.
  3. Funny. A silly adjective plus a food or animal: SoggyNugget, GrumpyWaffle, SpicyGoose. These are the easiest to actually claim, because nobody is farming them for resale, and they age far better than a name built around a game you played once. The funniest ones are specific rather than random.

When the name you want is taken

It usually is — Roblox has been handing out names since 2006. Rather than abandoning a good one, work it. Adding a single underscore in the middle changes the string without changing how it reads aloud, and it is the highest-hit-rate trick there is. A meaningful two-digit number works too, as long as it means something to you rather than being random noise; a birth month beats a random 47 because you will remember it.

Beyond that: swap the second half for a synonym, since the first word is usually the one you care about. Try the singular or the plural. Drop a vowel if the result is still pronounceable. And be honest about whether you want the name or the vibe — if the vibe is what matters, generating a fresh set in the same style above will land you somewhere just as good in thirty seconds.

What never works: waiting for an inactive account to release a name, paying anyone for one, or clicking anything that offers a “rare” username for free. Short names are the single most-targeted thing on Roblox, and every one of those offers is a login page dressed up as a gift. Roblox will never ask for your password anywhere but roblox.com, and neither will we.

Roblox username questions

What are the Roblox username rules?

Three to twenty characters, letters and numbers only, and at most one underscore which cannot sit at the start or the end. Names are unique and case-insensitive, so capitalising differently will not free up one that is taken, and everything is run through Roblox’s filter, which rejects swears, slurs, real full names and anything that looks like impersonation.

How much does it cost to change a Roblox username?

1,000 Robux, and it costs that again every time you change it. Your old username is released back into the pool once you move off it, so someone else can take it and you may not be able to get it back. Your display name, by contrast, is free to change once every seven days — if you just want to be called something different, change that instead.

What is the difference between a username and a display name?

The username is your permanent account name: unique across all of Roblox, used to log in, shown with an @ in front of it. The display name is the friendly one shown above your head in games and at the top of your profile. Display names do not have to be unique, follow the same letters-numbers-underscores rules, and cost nothing to change — which is why most people pick a plain username and put the personality in the display name.

Are short Roblox usernames rare?

Extremely. Roblox launched in 2006 and every three-letter and almost every four-letter combination was registered years ago, mostly on dormant accounts. Short names are also the main target of account thieves, which is why so many “free rare username” offers are phishing. Any generator promising you a three-letter name is not checking anything.

How do I check if a Roblox username is available?

Type it into the signup form, or use our username checker, which asks Roblox’s own endpoint and tells you whether the name is free, taken or rejected by the filter. Generators — this one included — cannot know what is free, because there is no public list of taken names. Generate first, then check.

Can I use spaces or symbols in a Roblox username?

No. Usernames allow letters, numbers and a single underscore, nothing else. If you want a space, a full stop or an accented character, that belongs in your display name, which accepts them.

Will Roblox ever release a username I want?

Only if the owner changes their own name, which frees the old one immediately. Roblox does not recycle abandoned accounts and does not hand names over on request, so waiting for an inactive account to expire achieves nothing. There is no queue and no waiting list — the practical answer is to pick a variant you like as much.

Is this username generator free?

Completely. No account, no Robux, no download. It runs in your browser, generates names locally and stores nothing about you. We never ask for your Roblox password, and you should never type it anywhere except roblox.com.
