The /e emote commands

These are not catalog items. They live in the default Animate script that Roblox attaches to every character, which is why they work on a brand-new account with zero Robux. Type the command into chat and press Enter. /emote wave is accepted as a longer form of /e wave.

CommandEmoteWhat it doesRepeats
/e waveWaveYour avatar raises one arm and waves. The standard hello and goodbye.Once
/e pointPointYour avatar points straight ahead — used to show someone where to go.Once
/e cheerCheerBoth arms go up in a celebration. Popular at the end of an obby or a race.Once
/e laughLaughYour avatar leans back and laughs.Once
/e danceDanceThe original Roblox dance. Repeats until you move.Loops
/e dance2Dance 2A second, faster dance animation. Repeats until you move.Loops
/e dance3Dance 3A third dance animation, the bounciest of the three. Repeats until you move.Loops

If nothing happens, you are almost certainly moving. The script checks that your pose is Standing before it plays anything, so a command sent mid-jump or while swimming is thrown away silently. The other cause is a game that swapped out the default character scripts — common in fighting and roleplay experiences, where the commands simply do not exist.

Most popular Roblox emotes

The 113 most-favourited emotes in Roblox's emote catalog, ordered by favourite count. Prices are Roblox's own and move when a creator puts an item on sale or takes it off, so treat the number as a guide rather than a promise.

How to equip a Roblox emote

  1. Buy or claim the emote from the Avatar Shop. It lands in your inventory, not on your avatar.
  2. Open Avatar on the Roblox website or in the app.
  3. Choose the Animations tab, then Emotes. You will see numbered slots.
  4. Drag the emote into a slot. Anything not in a slot never shows up in a game.
  5. Join a game and open the emote wheel from the bottom bar. Your slotted emotes are there.

Emotes are cosmetic and account-wide: slot one and it follows you into every experience that allows the emote menu. Nothing here changes how your avatar looks otherwise — for that, browse the catalog or build a look on outfit ideas.

Emote questions

What are the Roblox /e commands?

There are seven built into every avatar: /e wave, /e point, /e cheer, /e laugh, /e dance, /e dance2 and /e dance3. They come from the default character script, so they cost nothing and need no emote slot. /emote wave works as a longer synonym for /e wave.

Why is my /e command not doing anything?

The default script only plays an emote when your avatar is standing still. If you are walking, jumping, falling, swimming or sitting, the command is read and ignored. Stop moving and send it again. The other common cause is a game that replaced the default character scripts with its own — plenty of roleplay and fighting games do, and there the /e commands simply do not exist.

How many free Roblox emotes are there?

Seven /e chat commands, plus 7 emotes that Roblox itself lists at 0 Robux in the catalog — Point2, Shrug, Hello, Stadium, Salute, Tilt and Applaud. Everything else in the emote catalog is made by other creators and costs Robux.

How do I equip an emote I bought?

Emotes are not automatic. Open Avatar on the Roblox site or app, choose the Animations tab, then Emotes, and drag the emote you own into one of the numbered slots. Only emotes sitting in a slot appear in the in-game emote wheel.

How do I open the emote menu in a game?

Press the emote button on the bottom bar, or type a slash and pick from the wheel. The wheel shows the emotes you have put in your avatar slots, so if it looks empty you have not slotted any yet.

Do emotes work in every Roblox game?

No. A developer can disable the emote menu, replace the default animation script, or restrict emotes to their own set. Combat and roleplay games often do this so emotes cannot be used to dodge or glitch. The catalog emote is still yours — it just will not play there.

Can I get a paid emote for free?

Not through any site that asks you to log in or hand over your password — those are the classic beaming scams. Roblox does run free emote giveaways inside branded experiences and events, and those are always claimed inside the Roblox app itself, never on an outside website.

Where these IDs come from

Every emote ID on this page was pulled from Roblox's own catalog search under the Emotes category, then round-tripped through the catalog details endpoint and confirmed to be asset type 61 (EmoteAnimation) before it was published here. An ID that did not resolve was dropped rather than guessed — the same rule that governs the rest of the database, described in how we verify.

Related: browse catalog item IDs, grab free Roblox items, look up any ID with the ID lookup tool, work out what an emote really costs after Roblox's cut with the Robux tax calculator, or check avatar bundles — animation packs live there and change how your avatar walks and idles rather than adding an emote. If a word on this page was new to you, the Roblox dictionary explains it, and admin commands covers the : commands people often confuse with /e.
