How the 30% marketplace fee works

Every sale on Roblox — gamepasses, developer products, shirts, pants and UGC items — pays a 30% marketplace fee. The remaining 70% is rounded down to a whole Robux, which is why selling something for 10 Robux nets you 7, and why hitting an exact take-home number means charging slightly more than you might guess. Selling classic clothing also carries the upload fee and requires Premium; gamepass sales just need the game.

Tax questions

How much tax does Roblox take?

Roblox keeps 30% of every sale — gamepasses, developer products, clothing and catalog items. You receive 70%, always rounded down to a whole Robux.

How do I get exactly 100 Robux after tax?

Charge 143. 143 × 0.7 = 100.1, which rounds down to 100. The calculator above does this for any amount — divide by 0.7 and round up.

Does the fee apply to group funds?

Yes — the 30% is taken at the point of sale regardless of whether the item is sold by you or your group. Group payouts happen after the fee.

Why does Roblox take 30%?

It covers the platform: hosting, moderation, the payment processing that turns pocket money into Robux, and the cut app stores take from Roblox itself. Whether it is fair is an old debate, but it applies to everyone equally — price accordingly.

Is there tax on buying items?

No — buyers pay the listed price. The fee comes out of the seller’s side only.
