Roblox Username Checker

Live availability check against Roblox — taken, free, or filtered.

Rules a username has to pass

3–20 characters, letters and numbers only, at most one underscore and not at the start or end. Names also pass Roblox's content filter — a name can be "free" but still rejected as inappropriate. Nothing free-form survives the filter better than a clean two-word combination: try the username generator for ideas, then check them here. Pair it with a display name when you are done.

The rules, in full

Length3 to 20 characters. Three- and four-character names were claimed years ago, so treat short names as effectively gone rather than merely rare.
CharactersLetters and numbers only — no spaces, dots, dashes or emoji. If you have seen a name with a symbol in it, that was a display name, not a username.
UnderscoresAt most one, and it cannot be the first or last character. Soft_Halo passes; Soft__Halo and _SoftHalo do not.
The filterEvery name runs through Roblox’s text filter. A name can be unclaimed and still rejected as inappropriate — the checker reports that as its own result.
Changing itA username change costs 1,000 Robux, every time. Pick carefully before you commit.
Display namesSeparate from the username, free, and changeable every seven days. Put the personality there and keep the username plain.

Username availability questions

Why does a username show as taken when no profile exists?

Because a name being registered and a profile being visible are two different things. Names held by hoarded accounts, banned accounts and terminated accounts all stay registered even though searching for them turns up nothing. The checker asks Roblox’s validation endpoint, which knows about every registered name — including the ones attached to accounts you can no longer see.

Does capitalisation matter in Roblox usernames?

No. Usernames are unique case-insensitively, so SoftHalo, softhalo and SOFTHALO are all the same name. Changing the capitalisation of a taken name will never make it available — you need to change the actual characters, for example by adding an underscore or a number.

How often do Roblox usernames free up?

Only when the current owner pays to rename their account, which releases the old name immediately. That is the sole route back into the pool: Roblox does not recycle names from terminated or inactive accounts, so a name held by a banned or abandoned account is gone for good. There is no queue and no waiting list — if a name shows taken, the practical answer is a variant.

Can I check username availability without a Roblox account?

Yes — that is what this tool is for. It asks Roblox’s own signup validation endpoint and reports free, taken or filtered, with no login, no account and no password. Never type your Roblox password anywhere except roblox.com.

Why was my username rejected as inappropriate?

Roblox filters every proposed name for swears, slurs, real full names, contact details and impersonation of Roblox staff — and the filter also catches words hidden inside longer strings, so an innocent-looking combination can trip it. If a name comes back filtered, rewording it is faster than appealing: swap one half for a synonym and check again.

What makes a good Roblox username?

Short enough to type at every login, pronounceable enough to say in voice chat, and not tied to one game you might stop playing. Two ordinary words, optionally split by an underscore or finished with a meaningful two-digit number, is the pattern that survives best. Remember the username is close to permanent — the display name is where the personality goes, since it is free to change every seven days.
