Roblox Error Code 279 — What It Means & How to Fix It
Error code 279 means the client could not connect to the game at all. Error 279 (often with ID-17) means your device failed to reach the game server in the first place — a connection was never established. Firewalls, slow networks and huge games that time out while loading are the usual causes.
1. Let Roblox through the firewall
On PC, make sure your firewall or antivirus allows Roblox. A blocked UDP range is the single most common cause of 279 on desktop.
2. Give big games time
Massive maps can time out on slow connections before they finish loading, which surfaces as 279. Try a smaller game to confirm — if small games join fine, it is loading speed, not connectivity.
3. Restart network gear
Power-cycle the router, drop the VPN, and prefer a wired or strong Wi-Fi connection.
4. Try another server or region time
A specific broken server instance also throws 279 — join the game again to be routed to a different server.
Common questions
It is the connection-attempt failure variant of the same problem — treat it exactly like 279.
That game’s servers may be down or overloaded, or the map is too heavy for your connection to load in time.
