How to Set Up Roblox Parental Controls

Roblox’s parental controls run through a linked parent account, which gives you a dashboard over your child’s settings, spending and social features. Setting it up properly takes about ten minutes.

1. Link your parent account

In the child’s account settings, find parental controls and start the link. You verify yourself as an adult (ID or card check) and get your own parent dashboard tied to their account.

2. Set content maturity

Choose the highest experience rating the child can join. Ratings are set per-experience by Roblox, so this one setting filters the whole catalogue of games.

3. Control chat and social features

Under Communication you set who your child can text chat with — game chat, direct chat inside a game, and chat with friends — plus who can join a party with them. Private servers get their own control under Visibility & private servers. Voice chat is not a dashboard toggle: it only works at all on accounts that have passed a 13+ age check.

4. Set spending and screen-time limits

Monthly spend caps with notifications, and daily screen-time limits, both live in the same dashboard. A spend cap is the single most argument-saving setting on this list.

5. Know how the lock works

Roblox retired the old parent PIN. The lock is now the linked account itself: the settings you manage are changed from your device, not theirs, and anything needing your say-so sends your child an “Ask your parent” prompt and you a request to approve or deny.

Common questions

Can my child bypass the controls?

Not the settings you manage — those are changed from your account, and consent requests come to you. The realistic bypass is a second, secret account — which is a conversation, not a setting.

What age counts as a child account?

Roblox now sorts accounts into age groups from an age check — facial age estimation or ID — rather than trusting the signup birthday alone. Under-13s land on Roblox Kids or Roblox Select, which only serve age-appropriate games by default.
