How to Add Trusted Connections on Roblox

Roblox now calls these trusted friends, though plenty of people still say trusted connections. They are the closer tier of friendship for people you actually know, unlocking voice chat with friends and chat with fewer filters. Adding one takes a step beyond a normal friend request, and the step depends on your age. Availability still varies by country.
1. Complete an age check first
Trusted friends need an age check on your account — Facial Age Estimation or ID verification. Without one the trusted friend options are not even visible.
2. Add the person as a friend
Send or accept a normal friend request first. Trusted status is an upgrade on an existing friendship, though a live QR scan can do both at once.
3. Upgrade to trusted
Open their profile, tap the three-dot menu and choose Add trusted friend. Teens aged 13-17 have three routes: the mobile Contact importer, a live QR code scan from the Add Friends "+" menu, or an invite link that expires after 30 days. A screenshot of a QR code will not work — the scan has to be live. Adults 18+ can upgrade each other by mutual opt-in, but an adult adding a teen must use contacts or a live QR scan.
4. Know what changes
Trusted friends get voice chat with friends and text chat with fewer filters. Two age-checked adults in a one-to-one chat get both by default without being trusted friends. Links and rule-breaking words are still blocked, and Roblox still monitors these chats — trusted does not mean unmonitored.
Common questions
One of you has not completed an age check, you are not friends yet, the feature has not reached your country, or the QR scan or contact match has not gone through. If either of you is 12 or under, a parent has to approve it too.
Yes, with a parent in the loop. Children pick who they want, a parent approves each request by email or in Parental Controls, and requests expire after 24 hours. A linked, age-checked parent who is already a friend becomes a trusted friend automatically.
