How Roblox Age Verification Works

Age verification is Roblox’s gate for voice chat, 17+ experiences and trusted connections. It is a one-time check that takes a few minutes — here is exactly what happens.

1. Start in settings

Open account settings and find the verification section. Roblox offers an ID scan flow and, in supported regions, alternatives like a facial age-estimation selfie or phone verification.

2. The ID scan

You photograph a government ID (passport, licence) with your phone and take a selfie; an identity service matches the two and confirms your age band to Roblox.

3. What Roblox stores

Roblox states it receives the verification result (an age band), not a copy of your ID kept on your profile. The check is run by a specialist identity provider. Under-18s should involve a parent before scanning anything.

4. What unlocks

Verified 13+ accounts can enable voice chat and trusted connections; verified 17+ accounts can access 17+ rated experiences. The unlocks appear in settings shortly after verification completes.

Common questions

Verification failed — why?

Blurry photos, glare on the ID, or a mismatch between the selfie and ID picture are the usual causes. Retry in good light. Some ID types are not supported in some countries.

Can I verify without an ID?

In many regions yes — facial age estimation or phone-based checks exist as alternatives. The options shown in your settings are what is available for your region.
