Age verification — Roblox calls it an age check — is the gate for chat, voice chat, trusted connections and Restricted experiences. It is a one-time check that takes a few minutes, and there are only two ways to pass it.
1. Start in settings
Open Settings and go to the Account Info tab, under your birthday and age group. Roblox accepts exactly two methods: facial age estimation, or a government ID scan. Phone verification does not count as an age check.
2. The ID scan
Choose Continue with ID and photograph a government photo ID — driver’s licence, passport or residency card — then take a photo of yourself so the service can confirm you are the person on the document. It is only open to accounts aged 13 and up.
3. What Roblox stores
Roblox states it receives the verification result — an age group — not a copy of your ID kept on your profile, and it deletes the images and video used for facial age estimation after processing. Under-18s should involve a parent before scanning anything.
4. What unlocks
Age-checked 13+ accounts can turn on voice chat and trusted connections and chat with players in similar age groups; 16- and 17-year-olds get everything except Restricted content, which needs an 18+ age check. Roblox sorts accounts into groups of 5-8, 9-12, 13-15, 16-17, 18-20 and 21+.
Common questions
Blurry photos, glare on the ID, or a mismatch between your photo and the ID picture are the usual causes. Retry in good light. Some ID types are not supported in some countries.
