Roleplay is the single largest thing on Roblox by player count, and the least game-like. There is usually no objective, no score and nothing to win. You get a town, a house, a job and a set of props, and the activity is whatever the people on your server decide to do — which is why the same game can be a quiet domestic evening or complete chaos depending on who is in it.
The list below is ordered by live players, and for once that is not just a popularity ranking. Roleplay games are made of other people. A beautifully built RP town with nine players in it has nothing happening; the games at the top of this list are the ones where a server will always be full.

What makes a roleplay game work
Props and roles, not map size. The instinct is to judge an RP game by how big and detailed the town is, but what actually generates play is the number of things you can be and do — jobs with actual functions, buildings you can enter and use, vehicles, furniture, an economy. A large empty map produces less roleplay than a small dense one.
Moderation is the other half, and it is the genuine differentiator. Roleplay games are where Roblox’s worst behaviour concentrates, because there is no objective to distract from it. The long-running ones all invest heavily in filtering, reporting and staff, and the ones that do not develop reputations that show up in their ratings. If a game is going to be played by younger siblings, this is the thing to check.
Where to start
Start in one of the big town games at the top of the list. They are the most heavily moderated, the most populated, and their conventions — how jobs work, what the house system does, what people expect of you — are the conventions the rest of the genre borrows.
Bring friends if you can. Roleplay with people you know is a different and much better activity than roleplay with strangers, and most of these games have private server options built specifically for that.
How this ranking is put together
Every game here comes from our own Roblox catalogue, which refreshes several times a day. A game qualifies as a roleplay game on keyword signals from its name and description plus Roblox’s own genre label where that label is actually meaningful — it is not, for most modern games, which is why we do not rely on it alone.
The order is live concurrent players, highest first. We also drop anything whose like ratio has fallen below 50% where Roblox gives us vote counts, because a game people are actively downvoting does not belong on a “best” list however busy it is. Like ratio is shown per game where it is available; Roblox does not publish vote counts for every experience, so some rows show players and visits only.

What is a roleplay game on Roblox?
A game with a setting, a set of roles and no objective — a town, a school, a hospital, a family home. You pick who you are and improvise with the other people on the server. It is the largest category on Roblox by concurrent players.
What does RP mean in Roblox?
Roleplay. Games with "RP" in the title are telling you there is no win condition and the point is to inhabit a character. You will also see it used as a verb in-game, where "rp with me" means play along with the scenario someone is setting up.
Are Roblox roleplay games safe?
The large well-moderated ones are reasonably safe, with chat filtering, reporting and staff. But roleplay is where inappropriate behaviour on Roblox concentrates, because there is no objective competing for attention. For a younger player, sticking to the biggest games, using a Roblox account with age-appropriate settings, and playing in private servers with people they know are all worthwhile precautions.
Can you play roleplay games alone?
You can load into one, but there is not much there — the game is the other players. Roleplay is the genre where playing solo makes least sense, which is why player count is the most important column on this page.
What is a private server and why do roleplay games use them?
A server only people you invite can join, offered by most large roleplay games. They are popular here because they solve the genre’s main problem: with friends only, you control who is in the scenario and the experience is far better and safer than a public server.
Do roleplay games have codes?
Some do, generally for currency to buy houses, vehicles or furniture. They are less central than in simulators. Where a game on this list has working codes, there is a Codes link on its row.
