Best Roblox Story Games
Narrative games you play for the plot, ranked by live players.
A story game is the one Roblox format with an ending. Instead of a loop you grind or a round that resets, you get a scripted sequence — chapters, cutscenes, a plot that resolves — and when it is done, it is done. They are usually short, often built for two to six players, and they are the closest thing the platform has to sitting down with a film.
That makes them unusual to rank. A story game does not need a huge concurrent player count to be good, because you are not competing with anyone; you mostly need enough people online to fill a lobby. So read the visits column here more carefully than usual — total visits tell you how many people have played a story through, which is the more meaningful number for this genre.

What makes a Roblox story game work
Pacing, almost entirely. The format’s besetting sin is the corridor you walk down slowly while text appears, and a story game lives or dies on how much of its runtime is that versus something you actually do. The well-regarded ones break the narrative up with things to solve, run from or choose between, so the plot arrives while you are busy rather than while you are waiting.
The second thing is whether it holds up with friends. Most Roblox story games are played in a group, which means the game has to survive four people talking over the dialogue. The ones that work either lean into that — giving players different information, or different roles — or they are tight enough that nobody wants to talk over them. The ones that fail are the ones where everybody stands in a room waiting for a text box.
Where to start
Play one with friends before you play one alone. The genre is built for it, the well-known entries are almost all co-op, and a mediocre story game with three friends in it is a much better time than a good one by yourself.
Expect them to be short. A Roblox story game usually runs twenty minutes to an hour, and many have multiple chapters released over years, so it is worth checking whether the one you are starting is complete before you commit to the plot.
How this ranking is put together
Every game here comes from our own Roblox catalogue, which refreshes several times a day. A game qualifies as a story game on keyword signals from its name and description plus Roblox’s own genre label where that label is actually meaningful — it is not, for most modern games, which is why we do not rely on it alone.
The order is live concurrent players, highest first. We also drop anything whose like ratio has fallen below 50% where Roblox gives us vote counts, because a game people are actively downvoting does not belong on a “best” list however busy it is. Like ratio is shown per game where it is available; Roblox does not publish vote counts for every experience, so some rows show players and visits only.
Player counts are a snapshot, not an average, so a game can move several places between visits — that is the point. Live Roblox player stats →
Frequently asked questions
What is a story game on Roblox?
A game with a scripted narrative and an ending, rather than a repeating loop or round. You play through chapters, usually in a small group, and finish. They are the platform’s answer to a short single-player game and are typically twenty minutes to an hour long.
Are Roblox story games scary?
Many of them, yes â horror and story overlap heavily on Roblox, because a scripted sequence is the easiest way to build dread. There are non-horror story games, but the best-known ones lean dark. Check the game’s own age rating if that matters to you.
Can you play Roblox story games alone?
Usually yes, and some are better that way. But most are designed for two to six players, and a few have puzzles that assume more than one person, so going in solo can leave you stuck. The player counts on this page tell you which ones have enough people online to fill a lobby.
How long is a Roblox story game?
Typically twenty minutes to an hour per chapter. Series that release chapters over time can total several hours, but each sitting is short — that is the appeal of the format and why it works as a one-evening thing with friends.
Why do story games have lower player counts than other genres?
Because you finish them. A simulator keeps you for months; a story game keeps you for an evening and then you are done, so at any given moment far fewer people are inside one. That is why total visits is the more informative column for this genre — it counts everyone who has ever played through.
Do story games get updated?
The bigger series do, releasing new chapters months or years apart, and a new chapter reliably brings a spike in players. Smaller ones are usually finished and left alone, which is fine — they are complete as they are.
